My experience With Open Suse 11

First I tell You I am a big fan of Linux as it is open source . My first linux distro was open suse 10.1 thereafter I got attracted , as it is much improved disrto with any other, having imaginative features and its own menu called kick off menu. So, I am telling you my first experience with Open SUSE 11.

My PC hardware info for OpenSUSE11 :

AMD 3000+ 64 Bit
MSI motherboard
RAM 512 DDR
SMPS 450 watt iBall
Sony 20X DVD writer
Digital headphone
graphic card : none
monitor : 15' Samsung.

Installation :
Installation was straight forward and faster than previous version. I tried Open SUSE 11 new KDE 4 DVD . Installation is faster with a combination of black green themes also looks great. Lets take a graphical boot images .

Partition:

Open SUSE 11 having a wide range of partitioning your hard drive but I choose largest continuous free space for installation as I always do because SUSE default partition will reduced my Windows XP space.

Hardware Detection :

It detect all my hardware automatically , correctly detected my monitor's screen resolution 1048*768 , My printer EPSON C58 not detected as it not detected by any other Linux distro so I manually choose Epson C84 driver and it works. It detects all my hardware flawlessly .

Desktop Experience :

No one can beats suse in terms of look and innovation.Its amazing KDE 4 rocks I have no words to describe it correctly , I can Feel KDE4 that comes with open suse is much better than Kubuntu . It is damn fast , Secure & Look is no matter for suse. Desktop Widget , Firefox 3 and open office.org 2.4 making this distro no. one in my list of OS .

Conclusion :
A powerful Distro that comes with great features and looks and its damn fast. just give it a try and you can feel it.

You can install codecs by Install via 1-Click , its new feature like free spire CNR but it is faster and more reliable Or visiting manually by simply downloading necessary codecs or software packages from Packman .

Windows login monitor plus add copy to move to option

::How To Monitor Your Login Times in a day or in a period -

Without a software you can monitor your windows login time and date.
Simple open notepad can be found in programs list(start-programs-accessories-notepad). Type /write .LOG (case sensitive so copy and paste) now save it as login.txt . Now copy this file and paste it to
C:\Documents and Settings\log_in_name\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
Every time you start your computer you will log in time and date.

::Change “AM” and “PM” Displayed Near the System Clock to Any Text You want-

You can add your name or anything you like that consists of 8 characters or less. This will replace the AM or PM next to the system time. Do not use this tip if you are using any software during the trial period as it will corrupt the trial license. Open the RegEdit and navigate to the following registry key:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\International. Add two new String values, "s1159" and "s2359". Most probably those keys will be already
present. If it is not there then create them. Right click the value name and modify. Enter anything you like up to 8 characters. If you enter two different values when modifying, you can have the system tray display the two different values in the AM and PM.

::Add “Copy To Folder” and “Move To Folder” in a Right-Click Menu -

Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers.Shellex. It tells you it's a shell extension key that lets you customize the user shell or the interface. Create a new key called Copy To. Set the value to {C2FBB630-2971-11d1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}. Create another new key called Move To. Set the value to {C2FBB631-2971-11d1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}. Exit the Registry. The changes should take effect immediately. The Copy To Folder and Move To Folder options will appear. When you right-click a file and choose one of the options, you'll be able to move or copy the file using a dialog box.

::Customize the “Send To” Option--

Adding new locations and programs and taking away existing ones that you never use from this menu is very simple. It's easy to hack. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\\SendTo, where is your username with which you login to your system. The folder will be filled with shortcuts to all the locations you find on your “Send To” context menu. To remove an item from the Send To menu, delete the shortcut from the folder. To add an item to the menu, add a shortcut to the folder by highlighting the folder, choosing File New Shortcut, and follow the instructions for creating a shortcut. The new setting will take
effect immediately.

Default Download Directory in Internet Explorer

Whenever we download something using Internet Explorer it saves files in my documents.But You want to save your download to Local Drive (E) or any other drive that you think safe for your download just do as follows :

Before doing any registry change please back up your registry. by simply going to Start-Program me-Accessories-System Tool - System Restore and create a restore point. So in case of any problem this will bring your windows XP to its previous stage. Now move to the point.

For changing Default download directory of internet Explorer type regedit in run and press enter. registry editor will open .

Process :

Start-Run regedit and navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer.
Change the value of the string "Download Directory" to the new path you want to assign as
IE's Default Download directory. Like E:\Sanjay\Downloads.
